Not compatible with GE electric coocktop!

We bought this dowdraft vent and a GE built-in touch control electric cooktop (model #:JP5036DJBB) to replace our old set. We checked the dimentions and made sure that GE listed them as compatible models before purchase. To our dismay, the motor of the downdraft vent is postioned much higher than the old model (left discharge option), as a result our new coocktop got stuck by the vent motor and could not drop all the way down to be flush with the countertop. Called the customer service and they could not believe that these two models did not work together, since "these are compatible models"! A supposedly simple appliance replacement is now turned into a much bigger modification project. We are dissapointed that GE is not aware of these compatibility issues themselves, their "garanteed to fit" sounds like an empty promise.

Worst product design

When I read a description of the unit, it stated it worked with a remote control. I assumed it would be wireless but it’s not and you’re supposed to drill a 1/2” hole in your countertop to have this cheap wired remote control work. That’s the most idiotic idea that GE has ever thought up. All GE downdrafts are designed this way so my next one won’t be a GE. The fan is also quite noisy. Finally, the stainless steel finish is $180 more expensive than the black finish. I’m very disappointed in GE.

We bought this when we updated our kitchen recently. Previously had a Jenn Air system. It was old and very loud! This raises and lowers with ease and the multiple fan levels are perfect. So far, love it!

This is a very expensive product for the quality of venting. This model replaced a previous one and it doesn’t pull the air as strongly.

My unit was installed in 2015 and now the unit will not operate (ie does not rise) Service came out and I was told the the entire motor assembly needed to be ordered. (500.00) Now two week later the part cannot be found and GE has no idea when on will be shipped.

OPERATION OF THE TELESCOPING SECTION INCONSISTENT

AFTER CAREFUL INSTALLATION I FOUND THAT THE THE HOOD WOULD NOT GO ALL THE WAY UP WITHOUT HAVING TO PUSH THE BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES. THEN ID WOULD NOT GO ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT ALL THE WAY DOWN IS TO PULL UP ON ON IT AS IT IS RETRACTING. FAILED RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.

Drop in replacement.

This was a drop in replacement for an older similar GE vent that quit working. Just needed a small modification to the existing vent pipe. The new vent seems to draw air better than the 15 year old vent. Time will tell if it is reliable!
Does not vent fumes as good as an overhead vent.
