The AVR-985S defines authoritative power, featuring high quality, wideband audio amplification and 100 watts of power output for each of its seven main channels. The large capacity power supply includes a high current power transformer along with discrete power output devices on all seven amplifier channels for the highest dynamic range and superb reproduction clarity.The power amp circuits of the AVR-985S have been meticulously designed to reproduce exceptionally high sound quality with a wide frequency response from 10 Hz to 100 kHz. Equipped with a total of 7 power amps including two for the Surround Back channel speakers, it gives you more clearly defined sound localization at the rear for 6.1-channel surround. The 32-bit floating-point DSP processor - the Hammerhead SHARC - supports single-instruction, multiple-data processing. AL24 Processing senses the nature of digital data being input and interpolates the data so that it approaches the analog waveform it should be if the sound existed in the natural world, bringing out all the delicate nuances of the source material.
